Whaler Design Manager

POSITION SUMMARY Work in a loose and exciting environment while seeing your ideas come to life.  You will generate and develop concepts for Brunswick Boat Group products with a focus on Boston Whaler. Create exciting products through a process that has a strong focus on user centered design through extensive contextual research.  You will gain an understanding of how and why people use boats and be able to translate insights, while using your intuition, into industry leading products.  You will be responsible for the design of every aspect of the boat concentrating on research, form, innovation, aesthetics, ergonomics, space utilization and product feasibility.  You will lead projects to ensure that they deliver on the research and design vision.  You will guide a team to toward strategic goals based on the vision and values of the brand.  You will help to develop the future direction of the brand, constantly understanding the market and trends.  You will work closely with engineering and project management to ensure that the design direction is feasible. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage a team of designers to deliver exceptional designs. Develop and manage resources to a schedule that supports business objectives. Develop growth plans with individual designers to ensure their future success. Contribute to the development of the strategic vision of the brand. Maintain and evolve the design process to fit the needs of the team and ensure success. Utilize and live by research to influence design direction. Understand how consumers feel, feel as they do and let it inform your values. Sketch, a lot, and do it well. Break rules, find new solutions, develop something extraordinary. Create compelling communication that illustrates your vision. Develop 3D models to understand feasibility.  Work with others to understand constraints. Refine your designs by finding alternative solutions. Be active in the prototyping of new models and mechanisms. Sell the idea through thoughtful communication. Work with engineering and the rest of the business to maintain design intent. Mentor younger designers so that they can grow.  Take them along with you so they can learn. Never stop learning, understand that there are opportunities everywhere. KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION Bachelor Degree in Industrial Design required SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Minimum of ten years of experience in a design related position. Consideration will be given to experienced designers from other industries however marine experience is preferred. Sketch like crazy.  We like a point of view and style. Understand how and why things work.  Have an affinity for and be able to create new mechanisms. Understand sophisticated surface modeling, not necessarily class A, but pretty close. Understand basic rendering techniques. Demonstrate a strong passion for and understand the principles of human centered design. Bring something new to our team so that we can learn as much from you as you will from us. Be able to lead a project and team from start to finish.  Be able to understand the strategic as well as the tactical requirements of each project and ensure a timely delivery of the design. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
